Countdown to 2030 #RabiesChat

Rabies continues to kill an estimated 60,000 people worldwide every year despite being 100 per cent preventable through a simple, inexpensive canine vaccine. Giving this protection to just 70 per cent of dogs is enough to create “herd immunity” and stop dog-transmitted rabies.

On World Rabies Day, join a panel of international experts on Twitter as we discuss progress towards ending human deaths from rabies by 2030.

Taking your questions will be:

  • Carel du Marchie Sarvaas, Executive Director, HealthforAnimals @Health4Animals
  • Louise Taylor, Scientific Director, Global Alliance for Rabies Control @RabiesAlliance
  • Sergio Recuenco-Cabrera, 2016 World Rabies Day award winner, @srecuenco
  • Luke Gamble, CEO, Mission Rabies @LukeGamble
  • Felix Lankester, project leader, Afya Serengeti Project @felixjlankester
  • Kenneth Wameyo, honorary secretary, Kenya Veterinary Association @wameyokw

Hear from experts about:

  • The current problem of rabies around the world;
  • Success stories from canine vaccination programs;
  • The benefits of knowledge-sharing across regions;
  • The progress in ending human deaths from rabies by 2030.

To take part, simply tweet your questions using #rabieschat, and be sure to follow the hashtag for the live discussion. Follow @Health4Animals for more.

Join the conversation and let’s help reduce the number of deaths from rabies to zero by 2030!
